It never ceases to amaze me how the Balinese family compounds, which usually also house some sort of storefront "Warong" or shop/craft display/mini general store, or restaurant complete with temple, open spaces and small often ornate open air tables for dining are arranged along the compound, sometimes spilling onto a pristine rice field just behind the open compound. This has been especially noteworthy in the last two restaurants that we have dined where private clusters of tables were arranged under thatched roofed structures covering an area over an acre when the street front gave the appearance of the restaurant being in a crowded shanty town third world side street. One note about the massage facility- for about eight dollars you received a full hour massage, and fruit cup and coffee or tea and after the massage in a private pagoda. The average low tech wage is about four to five dollars a day. We had ten days laundry washed dried and folded for seven dollars and we haven't spent more than $35 for diner for six including a few glasses of wine. |
