DONNA

Lots of t-shirts here that say "Singapore is a FINE place to be" because the rules are so strict. $500 for having chewing gum (they wanted to keep the public transit clean and people stuck it under the seats so they made it illegal). Dancing in the street, $1000. You get caned if you graffiti (darn we left our spray cans at home). If you possess a gun, even without any bullets, you are hung.

The kids told the story of most of what we did. Jetlag hit me yesterday and I found myself falling asleep everywhere. But we went to the electronics mall, and then walking through the streets looking for lunch. We found ourselves in a busy business district right around lunchtime, with very organized throngs of people in the streets going to lunch or running errands.. We walked around through the shops and were in search of a particular fast food noodle place that William wanted (he read about it ahead of time) and ended up in the basement of a very large department store with a foodcourt. Even just getting a table in the foodcourt was interesting. Nobody grabbed, there was an organization even about waiting for the next one available (it was very busy). Getting Jenna's noodle/dumpling soup was even fascinating, watching the cook dip this in that, a little this, a little that, cook this here, stir that there, little dribs and drabs went in the bowl as she custom made each bowl of soup for each person in line. Lots of raw eggs being cracked into things (not Jenna's).....everything is so foreign.
I fell asleep in the cab back to the hotel. We took a nap for a while, then went to the night safari, all detailed above. I also fell asleep on the cab to the zoo, on the tram in the zoo, and in the cab on the way home from the zoo. And miracle of miracles, I actually slept all night too and for the first time was not up at 3 a.m. We are on our way to Bali!
